Day 6!

The team had another phenomenal workday today! We kept cranking on the two houses and worked on the siding today! We had quite a few setbacks today with rain and some bad boards that made the process a little rough, but the team pressed through it and encouraged each other and things turned around. We got things rolling with measuring, cutting and hammering and the siding started to go up! It was an amazing day to see the team press through and not only make the best of the work but to also know when to stop working and play with all the kids! A lot of kids from the area congregate when 47 Americans roll into the neighborhood and our team has loved on them so much this week! Another cool story from the day is the generosity of the team. We were told of a need in the orphanage for mosquito nets to not only help with possible diseases but also so the kids could just get rest. When the team heard about the need and the plan to purchase them they just wanted to be a part of it. They took some of their spending money and all chipped in and we were able to buy 28 of the 60 nets needed. It was an amazing act of generosity and love from this phenomenal hard-working team! Tomorrow is our last work day so pray for strength and perseverance to give it our all through the last board and nail! Also we'd love for everyone back home to be praying for a friend of ours down here. Polo is one of the workers who leads the entire build project and was not there today because his daughter was sick and had to go the hospital. We don't know all that happened but I'm sure Polo would appreciate it! More tomorrow!

It really makes me realize how blessed we are to have walls, windows and air conditioners - free of mosquitos.... and blessed to know wonderful, loving hardworking kids like you! Make the most of the time you have left..... your week is coming to a close. Bitter-sweet for most of you, I'm sure - but you guys have some parents here at home who can't wait to get our arms around you!! :)

    Hi Samantha!
I thought about one of your favorite verses while reading the blog: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me"(Philippians 4:13). It sounds as if you and your team have exuded perseverance and love when times became challenging and discouraging. Way to go team!
I am so proud of you, Sammy and Alex. I concur with your mom about your newfound knowledge of building structures:))I'm sure both of you have been encouraging each other! I can't wait to see all of the pictures upon your return.
    I love you!

  8. Hello Team! I was so touched to hear about your generosity with the mosquito nets! What an awesome gift! I know by now you all might be feeling some fatigue, but We are all praying for God to infuse you with HIS energy so that you may finish strong! So proud to be a small part of this story!!!

Alexandria, Mollie did pretty well in 4H. She didn't place, but like I told Nathaniel.. she didn't run out of the ring OR jump up on the judge AND he was able to use his show lead...not the choke chain like last year:) I love and miss you Sissy!

Samantha, I hope you are having a BLAST working your little fingers to the bone for Jesus!!! We are so proud that You are a Friend... we consider it an honor to have our daughter serving with you! Love you kiddo!

Lots of love and prayers to the team!

  10. Thanks for sharing your summary of this day. I had the opportunity to meet with God through this story and I am so proud of all of you! I am so amazed by how you are all being led and by how you are reacting (with faith and motivation) to opportunities that arise. Not only are you working (hard) to create structures that will last longer than the time you are there, you also shared what you had (money) with the kids so they could be blessed. I'm sure the act of buying the nets for them will last longer than the structure you are building.
Thank you again for "teaching and reminding me" of some very important lessons through your actions. I need to be more available to God's leading and to act/react in a manner that is consistent with what you are exhibiting.

You all are Awesome and are my heros this week!!!
    Make today great.

Praying for all and for Polo and his daughter.

Have a great day and thank you for serving me through this update.

  14. Such a great post to read! I feel challenged to step up even more and live a life of generosity everyday, everywhere! I am sure that the constant rain and the mud that it produces is wearing on all of you, but because you have your hearts focused on Jesus you are able to stay the course and finish the work that He purposed for and called you to do! My prayer is that this trip will mark you and that you will forever be changed and transformed. I know that others can see Jesus in your actions and work and that they can feel His love through the love that you are lavishing on them. More than they need houses and mosiquitos nets, they need Jesus so thank you for being His hands and feet! I pray that the rain will hold off just enough and all things will fall into place as needed so that these houses will be done and ready to provide safe shelter and blessings for a family. Cory, you will be happy to know that your phone charger case and athletic tickets from Purdue are here....only 18 more days and it's time to Boiler Up:) Miss you and CAN NOT wait until you are home! Love you tons!!

  15. It’s been wonderful to follow the blog each day and experience from a distance the incredible things that God is doing through you. It is amazing what is possible when we open ourselves to the love of Jesus. Blessings for all that you do in these last days in Nicaragua and that you will do in the future. This experience will change you. We’ll continue to pray for you, for Polo, and all of those involved in this work and ministry.

    God is great!

  22. That is amazing! I love to hear that the houses are coming along well! You guys are doing a great job! And I was just blown out of the water when I read about what you guys did with some of your spending money! That is incredible! God is doing some pretty amazing things through you guys. I've been praying everyday for all of you! And I was very happy to see all of the photos of everyone. It seems like everyone is having a great time! I hope these last couple days are as good as the first!
Hi Cecilia hi Brittany hi Jessica! I miss you guys! Hey Brittany just thought I'd let you know. Ive been using your trampoline constantly this past week. Sooo yeah. Cecilia your friend messaged me. I didn'tessage back. Is that mean? Hey Jessica I saw the picture of you and Alex lifting that wood. Sorry you got stuck with him on that. I'm sure you were carrying all te weight of it. Oh and Nate (arndt) there is a picture of you were it looks like you are being choked by a small child. What did you do to make a child want to choke you? Hey dalton forgot to tell you. Right before we left your house the night you left for Nicaragua I took your phone. Currently I've changed all the names of your contacts to match different numbers. So don't text your friend something you wouldn't want your mom to read because it could be her instead.
    Love Harrison:)
